Zachary Taylor 1849 - 1850
Unlike the many First Ladies who relished the opportunity to entertain at state dinners, Margaret Taylor disdained everything about the White House - especially her social obligations. She enlisted the help of her daughter, Elizabeth, who became the official White House hostess. Nonetheless, a set of White House china was created by British potters to serve the Taylors during their short sixteen month term of office before the President died. The Staffordshire blue pattern features a blue-and-white American eagle as well as an ornate border design.
